Deep Tissue Massage
Real Pressure, Real Results
If relaxation massage feels too light and you know your body needs something more, deep tissue massage is built for you. At Nuance Massage Therapy our deep tissue treatments are firm, focused, and genuinely effective for people who carry real tension and need a therapist who is not afraid to work for it.
What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage uses sustained, firm pressure and slow deliberate strokes to reach the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It targets the areas where tension has built up over time, where muscles have tightened around old injuries, or where chronic stress has left the body locked up and restricted.
It is more targeted than a general massage and more focused on specific problem areas than a full body relaxation treatment. Think of it as purposeful, skilled pressure applied exactly where your body needs it most.
What to Expect
Your therapist will check in at the start to understand where you are holding tension and what you need from the session. Pressure is applied gradually and your therapist will work with you throughout to make sure it is landing in the right place and at the right depth.
It can be intense in areas of significant tension and you may feel some tenderness in the day or two following your session as the tissue responds and releases. Most people find that discomfort is well worth what comes after.
Who is it for?
Deep tissue massage is for people who know their body and know what it needs. Athletes and active people who train hard and need their muscles to recover properly. People who carry chronic tension in the back, neck, shoulders, or hips and have found lighter treatments do not cut through it. Those recovering from injury who need real work done on the affected tissue. And anyone who has been stressed for a long time and whose body has physically absorbed the load. If you have been walking around tight, restricted, and uncomfortable for longer than you care to admit, this is the treatment for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Deep tissue massage involves firm pressure and it can be uncomfortable, especially in areas of significant tension or restriction. A well trained therapist works at the edge of your tolerance, not past it. You should feel the pressure working but never feel like you need to brace or hold your breath. Communication with your therapist throughout the session is encouraged and completely normal.

Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy exercise for the rest of the day, and give your body time to respond to the work. Some tenderness in the treated areas over the following day or two is completely normal and is a sign the tissue is responding. A warm bath or shower can help.
